Street robot vending machines can prepare healthy food from vegetables and grains in less than a minute, and can cook up to 1,000 different dishes using 16 basic ingredients and 20 seasonings and toppings.

According to a press release on Wednesday (November 24), the prototype of the SalatOmat vending machine was developed by engineers from the Russian National University of Science and Technology (NUST MISIS) and the Karfidov laboratory, and commissioned by a private company, AFM.

The machine is intended to be part of the city’s healthy food infrastructure to help people who want a healthier diet or people with allergies or other food restrictions.

"The cooking process of the robot starts with the preparation of the product-heat treatment and UV treatment (to prevent microorganisms and viruses), cutting vegetables, and stabilizing the temperature (cooling or heating, depending on the dish)," said the person in charge, Aleksey Karfidov. Co-founder and chief designer of NUST MISIS Technical Equipment Engineering Department and Karfidov Laboratory. "Next is dose determination, packaging and distribution. This cycle is completed by data fixation for further customer orders."

The robot is designed to determine ingredient safety, all components are hygienic, high nutritional value, and meal preparation speed is fast. The device is non-contact, and all processes require zero human interaction.

The ingredients in the SalatOmat container are pre-treated and placed in a hygienic sealed container, which can be stored for up to eight hours before being discarded. The cooking time is 30-60 seconds, which means that the robot collects 150 to 500 servings per day.

"The device has its own brain and memory. The smart module collects and stores data about taste preferences, medical indications, and restrictions for each order. Thanks to the RFID chip, the container'knows' what's in it," Kalfidov explained .
